The Wise Council Podcast

Dr. John Drimmer discusses his background and his beliefs. He talks about the key roles played by resilience, purpose and strength and how they can be nurtured and grown.

I became a therapist because I have a lifelong interest in personal development, relationships, and spiritual growth.

I have been happily married for 25 years. I’m a dad. I have been meditating for most of my adult life. I’ve travelled the world and lived deeply. I’ve learned much about people along the way. I try to bring my life experience to my work as a therapist. And learning never stops.

Education

I am a Licensed Psychologist. I taught positive psychology at the UCLA School of Medicine. I have a doctorate degree and attended Hamilton College and the University of Pennsylvania.

Before practicing full time I worked in the creative arts. I was a writer, ran TV programs, and was a journalist and producer at 60 Minutes. Today many of my clients are from the creative world, the healing professions, and business.

What Kind of Therapist Am I?

I emphasize the practical. I am dedicated to helping you create change. I use all my creativity and wits to help.

My work combines positive psychology, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), mindfulness — and anything that might help. I’ll share insights with you. We’ll muse and talk and build.

If we decide to work together we will start by setting goals for our work. I believe change requires a map, creativity and faith. Where do you want to get to? How can I help? We will set road markers so we can check on whether you’re making the progress you want.

I don’t think therapy should take a long time. You should see positive changes very soon.
